The Extraordinary Mrs. Crickett

December 2, 2008
Greetings everyone, hope you all had a stellar holiday. This week we'll be posting lyrics for the songs on Carassia Act 1. First up is The Extraordinary Mrs. Crickett, this is the first tune Adam and I collaborated on thus birthing Stokeswood; it would be two years after writing this song that the Stokeswood you now know was formed.

Welcome to Carassia
THE EXTRAORDINARY MRS. CRICKETT:
I hear you calling from miles away,
You seen half the country at three shows a day,
Take a no one from nowhere
And put her in a poster on my wall
Hurry, Hurry, Hurry its curtain call
Pre-chorus:
And the pretty girl cries, if the lights aren't bright
Enough for the people in the front row to see her
And she's shaking inside, that she'll forget her lines
But they'll be at the stage door waiting to meet her
Why?
Chorus:
She's got a little bit of Marilyn
And a voice like Aretha in her prime
She's got a little bit of Ellie Mae
And a little bit of nobody's business but mine
She's my three-ring Clementine
Why in a glass house is it so tempting
To keep throwing rocks 'til the boxes are empty?
And what do we now when all of our walls are gone?
Step right up lovely the show must go on
Pre-chorus
Chorus
Bridge:
Come one come all
Oh what a thrill, the big top in lights and your name on the bill
Behind the wheel of a broke down carousel
Life in the Circus is Hell
Chorus

And thanks to DJ Sun, who was our special guest twice this week and again kept the dance party moving and ran a stellar light show.

The Legend of Carassia

November 16, 2008
Ecco-Tat here, I’m sure many of you have been wondering what’s up with all this new and crazy stuff all over our website. You may be thinking; “Have these guys lost there mind,,, or have they discovered a portal to another world? And if they have, are they, perhaps, using their new-found powers, and understanding of quantum mechanics to manipulate time and space, creating new universes filled with Peep-Jousters, GZ Monsters, and Conti; an evil mega-chicken who terrorizes Carassians at his whim?????? Surly it can’t be!”
Well, your right, we aren’t exactly manipulating the space time continuum, but all the other stuff you were thinking about the Monsters and Chickens and Peep-Jousters (whatever those are), well all that stuff was right on the money.
I guess I’ll just give it to you the same way it came to me…
In the beginning Carassia was just a dark orb floating in space. Empty of life, barren and cold, Carassia spun around its universe for ages, possibly surmounting the age of Earth herself! Lonely and hopeless of ever sustaining life, she spun and spun through the ages and would continue to spin for the ages to come…
Until….
On one cold lonely day there came floating through the universe, small specs of vibrating light resonating through all the emptiness. Carassia had never seen anything like it in all her years. She tried as hard as she could to intersect the small globes of hope that came hurtled with love, warmth, and the feel of life… Alas it was not enough, the globes were too fast and Carassia was too old, she arrived just as the last globe had gone. She stared at the globes as they made there way through the universe, wondering what they were, feeling as though she had missed her one and only chance.
While Carassia sat watching all hope bleed away into the eternal abyss a small globe, trailing far behind all the other globes, was still racing through the darkness, a dimmer, less grand globe, but nevertheless it had traveled a great distance with a powerful message and it would not rest until it found its home. It was so insignificant that Carassia herself was unaware of its presence as she drifted into the great darkness, cold and barren as always. Little did she know, that the single trailing globe had landed on her unaware. It was a single “Pure Note”, created from a band named Stokeswood, it was a note of purity, warmth, love, and life and it had found its home on Carassia.
As the ages passed Carassia flourished, and grew stronger and more beautiful with each passing tide, until finally life appeared on her surface.
Carassians take only three shapes. The first and most rare of them all, the GZ Monster, was also the first to emerge on the planet. The GZ Monster is a relatively small creature in comparison to a human, about half the size. However, they live almost a thousand years and are born only of Pure Notes. There are also chickens on Carassia, small chickens and big chickens, the large chickens are less common than the small ones but not as rare as GZ Monsters.
As the ages passed Carassia grew strong and beautiful but, the amount of Pure Notes diminished in great numbers. It was at this time that GZ Monsters could no longer maintain harmony in Carassia. Without the peaceful harmonies of the GZ Monsters Carassia fell into disarray. Conti, the largest and most evil chicken of them all, formed an army of small chickens, which we call Peep-Jousters, with the sole purpose of banning the last of the GZ Monsters from Carassia.
Now it is up to us! We must help the GZ Monster; we need your help too! We need as many people as possible to play and spread our music so that more Pure Notes will reach Carassia, if we do this, GZ Monsters will once again be able to bring harmony to the land of Carassia and bring down the powers of Conti, the Evil chicken. So whenever possible, come to our website, play our music, sing our music, tell your friends, if you see the GZ Monster or Conti, or Peep-Jousters come to the website and log your sightings, together we can help bring harmony back to Carassia,,,
And remember, its all for GZ!

I'd never been to the 5 spot before tonight and its a wonderfu place. Lauren from Meisa (GSU) took great care of us and the artistic atmosphere was devine. Without our carassian drummers it was a different feel, but with the same message and we had a wonderful time.

Stokeswood is an Atlanta based band composed of five very independent and talented musicians with a common mission of bringing "a new sound not constricted to arrangements and lengths mandated by modern music."
Adam Patterson, whose otherworldly voice and passionate touch on the acoustic guitar, provides a sensation of uncompromised proportions to the psyche. Mark Godwin's endowed skill and fluid style on the electric guitar gives an elegant and angelic awareness to the inclusive spirit. Reed Irvine is a diverse piano and bass player whose noticeable ear and talent on the synthesizer fills this creative resonance. Jon Joiner's inventive and knowledgeable dexterity provides the core hub and backbone of the group, and Craig Gendreau's innovative ability on percussion and bass completes this distinctive ensemble. Fans of Stokeswood have claimed that listening to their live music at a show is the equivalent to an out of body experience.
They have played all over the northeast rocking from Miami to Boston and have been called "a well crafted style of music that is a warm welcome from the norm of today's over saturated music scene" by Talent Buyer of the CW Midtown Complex, and "well crafted songs, excellent musicianship [with] good looks and energy" by David Craver President of Open Mic Entertainment.
Adam and Mark of Stokeswood also run an Open Mic every Wednesday night at the local hot-spot, Bajas, in Newnan. They have given inspiration to several local musicians who all agree that their music has "touched [them] in incredible ways providing [them] with a driving passion to presume their own musical style". Stokeswood has played many benefits and charity events, and "will play anywhere". If there is a party, a formal, an event, a benefit this is the band to book! With booking Stokeswood there comes a guarantee for an awesome and energetic experience of a lifetime!
They already have an amazing cd "Carassia Act 1" that was released earlier this year that is a nice and eased introduction into their sound. Stokeswood is currently working on "Carassia Act 2" which can be described as "musically conscious, genius, signaturish, and so far in your face that it is subtle again by overlapping how much sound is coming at you". "There is a mystical place called Carassia that we want to show everyone," stated Mark. Even after a terrible house fire the band suffered, they rose from the ashes because they "know people want to hear".
To hear Stokeswood's music or to see a list of upcoming shows check out their website at
